My birthday was on Saturday, and at first, I was not as excited about it, which is odd since I always look forward to birthdays. But, Friday night, I sat in front of my computer and searched for clever ideas on how one can spend her birthday. I came up with several funky activities: go to a baseball game, watch the Blue Angels airshow, visit the aquarium, watch a musical, play on the beach, trash the dress, go to the hospital and read a book to a child, or just be silly and take lots of pictures! ;)

Well, all of that sounded fabulous, but since we were on a small budget, Eric and I went to the aquarium instead. We saw all sorts of fishies and reptiles lol. I had so much fun taking pictures. The sea otters even got funky and started mating in front of the humans! I actually recorded it LOL :D But everything was just amazing, and it makes you wonder about God and just how he created these creatures :)

I didn't anticipate being so tired from walking around the aquarium because by the time we saw everything, we had worked up quite an appetite. So we got some grub at the nearest Mickey D's and from there, we decided to head on to Best Buy to oogle at the latest technology. I've been thinking about getting a new camera since mine isn't functioning according to my needs. But buying a new one will have to wait. I'm po' lol :P

After Best Buy, we went off of Ocean Drive and just sat on the rocks. It was windy and cold, and the waves were pretty violent and splashed up against the rocks, but we took a few more funky pictures before it got too dark.

Then we headed home.

I've been celebrating my birthday with friends for the past three years, having a get-together at Chili's or Olive Garden. This year, I wanted to do something different. I even played Pick 3, even though I'm usually not one to spend much time on the lotto or gambling lol :P But I had a fabulous birthday this year. Especially because I spent it with Eric :D

And thank God this semester is almost over...

just me
So I suck at updating my journal...

The semester's going pretty smoothly so far. Things in SAI are kicking; we're looking at 7 soon-to-be MITs who are just as excited about our Fraternity as we are about them joining us! And the mood of the chapter is content :)

Eric, Mo, and I went to church yesterday cuz of Ash Wednesday. I gave up MySpace, Facebook, chips, and soda for Lent. I'm keeping busy with other things to do than miss those things, but I'm quickly realizing how much I really love chips and soda >.< Facebook and MySpace, I'm staying planted on the ground and having more time to do things I actually have to do, like practice or homework lol :P

In other news...

A couple of days ago, Eric and I had a big fight, and that night we actually broke up. Long story short, we sat down and talked the next day and resolved to take small steps to A New Change in our relationship. In about an hour, we made up with a new outlook. We're taking things very slow with baby steps, remembering our promises that we wrote down. I feel good about our approach, because I really think that this time will be what makes us.

Tonight, I have to study for a major music history test tomorrow that I have vowed to make an A on. My professor has this policy that if you have an A in the class going into the final, you're exempt from taking it. So that's my goal, to get As in that class to avoid taking the final, just because it's my last semester of music history to take ;)

And I still have to practice for my lesson tomorrow >. Off I go...

Okay, so I know I haven't updated in a while...

I'm here in a hotel room in San Marcos. We have Province Weekend for SAI this weekend, and although we arrived late for the first day, we managed to make it in time before they put away the food :P

Mo, Liz, and I headed to Austin (30-minutes from here) to visit some old friends. We played some Pictionary. Girls vs. Guys. Two hours later, guess who reigned supreme? None other than the ladies of course!! :D

I believe that's the most fun I've had with random strangers ever! It was great seeing old high school friends, though =)

And now, off I tuck myself into bed to get a few hours of shuteye for tomorrow's SAI festivities!
19th-Jan-2008 12:03 am - Not again
sad
Well, here I am alone in my room again because it's all my fault. I'm feeling lonely because I can't stay with you tonight. And I'm feeling sad because it had to come to this yet again.

I wish we never fight. I wish we just gave in. I wish we just understood.

It's cold tonight. I hope you stay warm in your sleep. I hope you'll call me later to say good night.

I love you.
17th-Jan-2008 06:40 pm - Auditions
just me
I just finished my audition for Wind Symphony. My solo piece was the Weber Clarinet Concerto No. 2. I had a bit of time to practice last night and this afternoon. I'm crossing my fingers I make it because this semester we go on tour.

I sat down for a great lunch at noon with Liz, Mo, Lucio, Mark and Eric. Mo mentioned that their suitemates moved out, and that room was actually empty. I got excited and made plans to fill out a room change form so I could move in to that room.

I'm not really having roommate problems with Jen or anything, and if it's only one thing that bothers me it's that she leaves her lamp on at night. Drives me crazy!! I can't sleep with that much light. A little night-lite maybe. But not a whole lamp. Other than that, I don't have a problem with her. Surely I drive her crazy as well. One way or another :P

Well, I went to the front office after my auditions to ask about changing rooms, and they pretty much just made me write my info down on a sign-up sheet. Unfortunately, nothing can be done until the 12th class day *rolls eyes* Hopefully I do get that room, though.

And hopefully I make it to Wind Symphony...

Spring semester started today, and so far, my classes are going well. Here's my schedule so far:

MWF
8:00 AM - Conducting II
9:00 AM - HS Methods
10:00 AM - Music History II
11:00 AM - College Algebra
4:00 PM - Wind Symphony

TR
11:00 AM - High Brass
1:00 PM - Recital Seminar (Thurs. only)
2:30 PM - Orchestration

I'm so determined to get straight As this semester in all my classes. If I could do it my freshman year, there's no reason I can't do it my junior year ;)
7th-Jan-2008 02:54 pm - Politics
posh
I've been getting into the debates on TV lately, and it's interesting to see the reactions of the candidates and their responses to insults and comments from the other candidates. They get so heated sometimes, it's kinda funny lol ;)

Politics is a very dirty job, I think. One that I would never want to be involved with. Those who are in it for the American people and have a real passion for it because of something personal that affected them in their youth is great. I'm all about passionate people working for change. Those that really strive to serve others, not for personal gain or anything selfish.

But the things that go on behind closed doors are what concern me. When candidates start making ads that trash others, I get really turned off. Isn't there a way you can campaign without doing that? All that does is make them look bad, talking crap about others as though their own shit don't stink. HA!

What I'd like to know is how they're going to really turn things around in this country to where Americans are seriously more patriotic and people from other countries get excited that the Americans are coming to save the day. Like how things were waaay back before I was even born. When there was a real sense of American pride. And other countries didn't hate us so much :P

Or am I just being naïve?
6th-Jan-2008 02:47 pm - Discovery Channel
worried
So I just finished eating lunch, and now I'm watching the Discovery Channel on something about hauntings and demonic spirits. It's pretty crazy.

The one interesting thing I've learned from this: Fireplaces are a bad idea. Apparently, they're the gateway from one one realm to another.

Anybody else think that's crazy? :P
6th-Jan-2008 12:42 am - Lisa and Joseph's Wedding
just me
When I woke up at noon today for the second time, I started to get ready with the intention of arriving at Lisa's mom's house early to help her with whatever she needed help with. My mom, however, had left earlier, and she wasn't answering her cell. So I assumed that she wouldn't be back for another couple of hours, running errands and whatnot. Nonetheless, I got ready. Around 2:30, my mom still wasn't home, but Mo and her mom picked up Eric's suitcase with all his clothes that he had left in his car last night. Then they came to pick us up and take us to the church already where the wedding party was supposed to meet at 3:00.

The rest of the wedding... )

And as far as weddings and I are concerned, it definitely got me thinking about the future. I'm already 21, soon to graduate from college, and that idea is not too far away... ;)
5th-Jan-2008 10:43 am - So much for plans
posh
Lisa's wedding is today, and I just woke up. So far, I've only managed to drag myself out of bed long enough for a shower. I'm still sleepy after staying up until 6:00 AM. Long story... My mother woke up at around 7 and started banging things around the kitchen to make a pot of coffee. Made me clench my teeth in my sleep >.<

I think I'm gonna sleep some more and get ready around noon. I can't afford to be cranky all day.
